I'd Rather Be

Neo-nazis on my TV screen
Committing acts of violence so obscene
Is it an unwritten human rule
The conservation of all things cruel

And rising up behind this awful dread
The religious right rears its ugly head
To justify the hatred and the petty fights
Keep you from straying and sleepless nights

        I could be right
Take another stab at seeing the light
But I'd rather be left standing
When the shit hits the fan

A crowd of people at Bloor and Bay
Stop and listen to the preacher say
You'd better hurry there's no time to lose
There's only one choice and it's time to choose

But it's not enough to follow Jesus Christ
You must also vote for what's right
Like no abortions or gays in schools
Fiscal restraint and money rules

        I could be right
Take another stab at seeing the light
But I'd rather be left standing
When the shit hits the fan

Looking out of my hotel room
At Dallas, Texas it could be the moon
Bumper stickers shout heaven or bust
Fight for your right to arm, in God we trust

Because you never know when the British may come
Give up your freedom but not your gun
And when it comes to that final call
Remember, god can't possibly take us all

        I could be right
Take another stab at seeing the light
But I'd rather be left standing
When the shit hits the fan

        I could be right
Take another stab at seeing the light
But I'd rather be left standing
When the shit hits the fan
        The shit hits the fan
        The shit hits the fan
