Even after all this Time

Even after all this time
The stars don't seem quite real
Tilted in their southern way
Above this scrubby field

    I try to fathom fitfully
    The distances out there
They haunt me like true love's refrain
    Even after all this time

I miss the way you smile at me
        In the morning light
I miss the way your body sings
        When I play it right
        I miss you every day
        Even after all this time

The past is not negotiable
The future isn't set
So if I were to have regrets
They'd be the simple kind

    That I failed to recognize
Things I should not try to fix
And that I had to make you mad
    Even after all this time

I miss the way you smile at me
        In the morning light
I miss the way your body sings
        When I play it right
        I miss you every day
        Even after all this time

Seems like forever since I held your hand
Seems kind of pointless not to tell you how
Even spinning on this rock through space
Can't make me not see and feel
That I'm still mad in love with you
            Even after all this time

I think about my parents
Before I was born
Lying in a field of wheat
Counting these same stars

They're older now but still in love
As true as love can be
I hope to be there someday too
    Even after all this time

I miss the way you smile at me
        In the morning light
I miss the way your body sings
        When I play it right
        I miss you every day
        Even after all this time
        I miss you every day
        Even after all this time
        I miss you every day
        Even after all this time
