Body of Mine

Rising fog spreads pungent over dead spikes of corn
Congealing breath of earth gods in the October morning
Trying to shake off the hangover of last night's frost
While Jupiter lingers and Orion gets lost
Used to make me feel insignificant make me feel small
Until I realized I could be nothing at all

Em .. Am Em Am
You can't change the present or the past oh no
      Am C Am
Just make a better future and hope that it lasts.

Old maple stands proudly among the pines
It's all alone but it seems to be doing just fine
Laughing red leaves mock my lonely heart
Sometimes you can't see the ending until you see a new start
Used to make me so sad I thought I would die
'Til I realized that you can't take the beauty from the sky

Em .. Am Em Am
You can't change the present or the past oh no
      Am C Am
Just make a better future and hope that it lasts

                        C Em
This body of mine, this fragile heart
                  F Am
Were not meant to be alone
                            C Em
Waiting for your kiss, hot breath on my skin
                            F G Am
As you question my love again
      Am C Em
The funny thing about love, it doesn't wait when it calls
                                      F G
It takes a little it then it takes you all
                 Am C
And sometimes the other person plays it safe
                                        Em
Sometimes they put their fear aside
                            F
I did not make the rules
               G Am
But I must abide by them

These streets of pleasure, these streets of pain
Underneath my feet the rumble of the 8th Street train
I can't believe my luck I just caught Ferron at NYU
She made me laugh she made me cry she made me think about you
She used to make me think like I couldn't write or sing
Until I realized that we're all into different kinds of things

This body of mine, this fragile heart
Were not meant to be alone
Waiting for your kiss, hot breath on my skin
As you question my love again
The funny thing about love it doesn't wait when it calls
It takes a little then it takes you all
And sometimes the other person plays it safe
Sometimes they put their fear aside
I did not make the rules
         But I must abide

This body of mine, this fragile heart
Were not meant to be alone
Waiting for your kiss, hot breath on my skin
As you question my love again
The funny thing about love it doesn't wait when it calls
It takes a little then it takes you all
And sometimes the other person plays it safe
Sometimes they put their fear aside
I did not make the rules
But I must abide by them
